Frequently Asked Questions

How to prepare for the Triumvirate?

The goal is to understand the issues that characterize North American relations, more specifically those related to the themes that will be debated in the political commissions. For that purpose, participants must read the Commissions Guide. This Guide includes information on the four themes debated during the simulation. Participants representing legislators must also read the Legislator’s Guide. This document explains in detail the functions of the legislators. These documents are available on our web site under the section “Work Documents”:
http://www.fina-nafi.org/eng/triumvirat07/fonctionnement.asp?langue=eng&menu=triumvirat07

The participants will receive, by email, the Participant’s Handbook a month before the simulation. This document will contain the four draft resolutions which will be debated during the simulation. An official program will be distributed to the participants upon their arrival.

NAFI invites you to visit our internet site, where you will find articles, position papers as well as links to other web sites related to North American Integration.

How will be made the choice for the legislators, the journalists / lobbyists? When will I know my role?

The secretariat indicates the roles of the participants; it tries to hold account of the preferences expressed by the participants but cannot guarantee them. The roles are transmitted a few days after the sending of the enrolment form by the participants.

Will I have to speak?

The protocol for taking the floor depends on the role you are assigned. A description of the order and nature of the interventions is detailed in the Commissions Guide, available under the “Work Documents” section: http://www.fina-nafi.org/eng/triumvirat07/fonctionnement.asp?langue=eng&menu=triumvirat07

The rules of intervention are explained in detail in the Constitution, available in the same section mentioned here above. Every participant must know and understand the Constitution.

What is the proper attire?

Formal attire is mandatory during activities in the simulation schedule. Anyone wearing sandals, flip flops, jeans, or without a blazer (in the men’s case, anyone without a tie) will not be allowed to take part in the sessions.
